Staying in Ketosis...

If you're new to Keto, Ketosis is when the body does not have enough glucose for energy so it burns stored fats instead. That is exactly what we are aiming for in a Ketogenic Diet. When you eliminate or reduce the carbs entering the body, then the body must resort to the stored fats. However, if you cheat (eating too many carbs or the wrong carbs), then you 'throw' your body out of Ketosis and it takes longer to get back into that fat burning mode again.

That's what I did this weekend and am 'paying' for it now! 😡

I didn't just eat too many carbs, I was totally eating the wrong kinds of carbs! Are you wondering what I ate? Ok, I'll be brutally honest... fried/breaded chicken buffalo bites, fried/breaded cheese balls, chinese chicken and broccoli in brown sauce (no doubt had sugar and who knows what else in it!- But I didn't have the rice - oh wait.... I had the egg roll!) AND I had a Dairy Queen blizzard!

I know!! I totally went off the rails!!

And I gained 2 lbs... probably not all because of that splurge day, but it definitely contributed.

So, although I've been eating beautifully the last 2 days, I am barely in Ketosis. (I measure my ketones using a breathalizer.) It usually takes me 3-4 days to reach Ketosis again. The good news is I will return to Ketosis!

So, if you are like me and totally run off the rails some weeks, don't come down on yourself too hard. Jump back into your Keto eating plan and rest assured you'll be back into Ketosis again in a few days!!

Until next time,
Peace, Love, & Joy!
